Snook are a very worthy adversary on fly and light tackle. They are a tropical, warm water species and Tampa Bay is at the northern edge of their range which means one thing….Big Fish. To this day the only fish that has spooled me is a 20 plus lb snook that I hooked while wade fishing. These fish can show up anywhere at any time and many times are extremely large. Snook love to stay warm and often can be found sunning in extremely shallow water. The best time to fish for snook is in the summer while they cruise the beaches and congregate to spawn offshore. This is a highly visual game as these fish are on bright white sand with barely enough water to cover their back. Snook are also plentiful in the backwaters and in our river systems.
